Peripheral Vascular Laboratory
The physicians of Surgical Associates direct the Peripheral Vascular Laboratories at Johnston-Willis Hospital,
St. Francis Medical Center, and VeinSolutions of Richmond at Stony Point. Utilizing state-of-the art ultrasound
equipment and painless, non-invasive procedures, these advanced diagnostic laboratories can identify
blockages in veins or arteries in the neck, legs or other regions of the body. With this improved technology,
the physician is better able to diagnose underlying problems and prescribe a treatment plan tailored to a
patient's individual needs. This is important to achieve the best long-term results. The registered vascular
technologists have been specifically trained by our vascular surgeons. The test is non-invasive, no
preparation is needed and it takes approximately 30 to 60 minutes to complete. All studies are interpreted
by our board certified Vascular Surgeons who are committed to the care of patients with vascular disease.
With advance notice, our staff can usually coordinate both vascular testing and an office consultation with a
vascular surgeon on the same day. This service has been particularly well-received by our out-of-town patients.
We also endeavor to leave several openings in our schedule to accommodate urgent requests, such as acute
DVT evaluation or walk-in patients. Venous duplex scanning is typically a covered expense by most insurance
companies.
