Surgical Oncology
Surgical Oncology involves general surgical procedures of many treatable cancers, and the
management of all aspects of cancer therapy. This includes surgical intervention, coordination
with the medical and radiation oncologist and involvement in national protocols for new treatment
of cancer. Although general surgery training includes intensive training in cancers that are
surgically treated, there are unusual cancers that require further training. Surgical Associates
of Richmond provides this type of care and is active in support groups for patients with some
types of cancer.
